The Wooden Puzzle Guitar by ZenChalet transforms a classic musical silhouette into a vibrant, sculptural artwork. This puzzle is simply beautiful and thoughtfully designed as no two pieces are alike. And the interesting part of putting this puzzle together is I discovered eleven shapes of instruments as individual puzzle pieces. Those puzzle pieces included a flute, ukulele, mandolin, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, banjo, trombone, piano, tenor saxophone and an alto saxophone. Once finished, the back of the puzzle depicted pictures of instruments slightly carved into the wood.

I remember completing wooden puzzles as a child. This is my first wooden puzzle completed as an adult. A friend purchased this puzzle, recognizing my love for puzzling, his love for guitars and our love for artistry. And the thought was we would work together to complete it. It became funny to me as I realized some folks just don't have the patience or eye for detail to complete jigsaw puzzles. As I don't have the technical skill to play a guitar.

My friend's love for guitars started when he was a child as well. This is his story.

"Ever since I can remember, I have always liked the sounds of guitars. I enjoyed the guitar sound long before I knew what one looked like. To me, those sounds were fascinating. I was about eight or nine years old when I saw a guitar for the first time. It was a 1962 Fender Jaguar Stratocaster that belong to Mr. Joe Thomas, a friend of my grandmother who lived in Cassopolis, MI. Mr. Thomas owned a twenty-five-acre farm in this small rural community, just south of Kalamazoo, MI. Mr. Thomas also was a professional musician from Chicago. He owned and played all kinds of instruments including the guitar. When my grandmother and Mr. Thomas would come to Detroit to visit my family, he would always bring two of his instruments so he could continue to practice. He normally would bring his Fender guitar and another instrument. Of all the instruments, the Fender Jaguar fascinated me the most. One day, Mr. Thomas asked if I was interested in learning to play the guitar. He taught me how to properly hold it, and from that point on I was absolutely hooked. For Christmas, when I was 11 years old, my father purchased my first guitar, which was a Sears Silvertone Acoustic guitar. I was grateful to receive my first guitar for Christmas, but also disappointed that it was an acoustic rather than electric guitar. My father sensed my disappointment and explained that he could not afford an electric guitar. He also said that if I learn to play the acoustic guitar very well, he will buy whatever kind I want on the planet. Not being able to afford music lessons, I taught myself to play the guitar for a little over two years, even well enough to play a few songs. Around the age of fourteen or fifteen, I totally lost interest in playing the guitar and stopped entirely. Although I stopped playing, I never stopped liking guitars. When I was about thirty years old, for some reason, my interest in guitar playing resumed. Oddly enough, the first guitar I purchased was an acoustic guitar. Since that first purchase, I have bought more, sold some, and donated some. I took lessons for about three months until it became unaffordable. To date, I have twenty guitars: eighteen electrics and two acoustics. Someone explained that I have a condition referred to as 'G.A.S.', Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. I found that to be funny. I recognize that I buy guitars because I just like them, not that I play them well. And that's ok!"
