The Story Behind the Puzzle

The New Millennium 2000–2010

This vibrant collage-style puzzle captures the cultural heartbeat of the first decade of the 2000s. Designed as a visual time capsule, it bursts with iconic moments, personalities, and symbols that shaped the era. The central title, "The New Millennium 2000–2010," radiates outward in a bright sunburst, anchoring a whirlwind of imagery from politics, sports, entertainment, technology, and pop culture.

Surrounding the title are instantly recognizable figures — world leaders, celebrated athletes, beloved musicians, and film stars — interwoven with logos and products that defined the decade, including Facebook, Twitter, Monster Energy, and the first iPhone. Each vignette contributes to a rich tapestry of nostalgia, making the puzzle both a lively challenge and a historical snapshot of a transformative period.

What was I doing during the 2000–2010 era? I was working every day at the Michigan Municipal League and raising my daughter Dorian as a single parent. Dorian's ages would have ranged from age three to thirteen, so I would have been deep into elementary school work and then dealing with her health issues when she was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes in 2006. That health challenge required us to count carbohydrates for every food she ate and determine how many units of insulin to inject her body. This was a very difficult time for us, but with God's grace we made it through.

As I look at this puzzle, the images that I feel I can truly relate to are the flip phone, Google, USB drives, a modem, Obama, Uggs, Bush, Avatar, and American Idol. This is also the first time I learned the difference between the Electoral vote and the Popular vote in a presidential race.

I hope this piece stands out for its density of detail and its ability to evoke memory and emotion, inviting you to revisit the milestones that shaped the early 21st century.
