The Story Behind the Puzzle
This puzzle captures the distinctive enclosed pedestrian bridge that crosses 2nd Avenue linking the Fisher Building to the New Center One Building in Detroit. The walkway's signature look comes through clearly: a long, tubular corridor formed by repeating curved metal arches, each one framing the next to create a strong sense of depth and symmetry. Light filters through the translucent panels overhead, giving the entire passage a soft, diffused glow. Handrails run along both sides, guiding the eye toward the bright opening at the far end where the bridge meets the next building.
It's a structure Detroiters know well — a futuristic, almost tunnel-like connector suspended above the avenue — and the puzzle highlights its geometry, rhythm, and the feeling of motion it creates as it pulls you forward through the space.
This bridge reminds me of another pedestrian bridge spanning over Jefferson Avenue linking the Detroit Renaissance Center to the Millender Center. In high school, I worked my first job at Record Copy Services, in the Renaissance Center, Tower 400, 20th Floor. I was responsible for copying legal documents for attorneys in court cases. There was a specific process to keep original documents in perfect order and make copies with precision. There I learned how to perform with excellence in mind. Nothing less was accepted.
I worked during the afternoon, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. I used this pedestrian bridge daily to go to and from work. I enjoyed walking this bridge as it shielded me from the traffic below, or the scorching heat from the sun, or the cold wet rain. It will always be part of my memory and hold a special place in my heart. If you are ever in Downtown Detroit, I invite you to walk along the pedestrian bridges, either over 2nd Avenue or Jefferson Avenue.
